Maui, December 10, 11, 11, 2012

The pictures on this page were shot during 3 dives in Maui during December, 2012. All three dives were shore dives with Eric of Dolfun Scuba. Dives lasted as long as your air returning with 500 psi on an AL80. Max depth in the 30s. All three dives a bit over an hour long. Lots of turtles resting and hiding in caverns.

Once we got out to 15 ft or more of depth we saw some healthy reefs. They lacked soft corals in any number and no elk horns so a very different look than the Floriday keys.

These little arc eye hawkfish liked to sit on top of coral and keep a lookout.

There were lots of butterfly fish of different sorts. The first two photos are threadfin butterfly fish.

A spotted boxfish. Small and very colorful. Since it is so pretty it is a male. See female below.

Look carefully. The next two pictures show two frogfish. One is orange.

The striped fish are striped squirrelfish. The others are probably big scale soldierfish.

Got to play a bit with an octopus. Once it calmed down it changed color from dark to spotted and just sat on my hand until we put him back.

 My favorite turtle picture.

But a moorish Idol and a turtle posing together is cute.

An eel. My guess is a white mouth based on the spots..

Found out after the dive that this pretty flower is actually the eggs of a nudibranch. Did see on nudibranch. Brown with white edges. Photo is not the best so not included here.

A nice group of reef fish. Includes the striped squirrelfish, soldier fish, blue stripe snapper, and a bunch of damselfish. The damselfish are referred to both as white spotted and domino. Not sure if those are actually the same fish.
