April to July, 2010

The pictures on this page were shot during dives in NC during the first half of 2010. In July I got a new camera which I am getting used to.

In the Spring the bream become active in Fantasy Lake. Due to lack of cover they are either little or large. The large ones are on the bed and will defend their nests.

There are a couple of docks in Fantasy Lake which form a nice habitat.

There is a sunken bus. Air bubbles from divers will sometimes burp up from the roorf.

In North Carolina the typical diving boat has a hang bar about 15 ft under the ship and from that a line leads to the anchor and then down to the wreck or ledge. On the way down it is a good place to meet up and make sure all is ok. On the way up safety stops are done there.

Barracuda like to keep you company on the hang line.
image

We typically see lots of large Sand Tigers. They are docile but impressive. This one is coming up through an area of lower visability. (lower viz)
image

Sand bar sharks are large, fast and act hyper. They are fish eaters but their overly caffenieted behavior makes them unpopular with divers. This one was on the Markham. It shoot over the side, came at us, did its twitch, and then left.

The wrecks are covered in corals with passageways to explore. These two have been deliberately sunk so they are cleaned out. They are the Hyde.

The next picture is a star fish. Looking closely you will see the the blue part is actually polyp like protrusions called pedicellariae. These kill off anything attached to the starfish and keep it clean. You see stuff growing on all sort of shellfish but not on starfish.
image

Another starfish. This one is regrowing arms. We frequently find starfish with missing arms.
